Executive Compensation & Offer Negotiation

Position the role correctly. Communicate your value. Negotiate the full package strategically.

At the executive level, the strongest negotiation is not built around simply asking for a higher number. It is built around demonstrating how the role should be valued, why your experience and results support that position, and where opportunity exists across the complete compensation package.

This customized advisory engagement combines compensation research, executive value positioning, negotiation strategy, personalized phrasing, and two private coaching sessions to help you enter the conversation prepared.

Your Compensation Conversation Deserves More Than Generic Advice

Executive compensation can be shaped by far more than a posted salary range.

  • Role scope – – title – – reporting structure – – organizational size – – geography – – internal equity – – expected business impact – – incentive opportunities – – and employer constraints may all influence the final package.

We help you examine those factors together and build a strategy around the specific opportunity in front of you.

You will prepare not only for what to request, but also for how to explain why the role, your experience, and the value you bring support a stronger outcome.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Designed for High-Stakes Executive Compensation Discussions

This service is designed for senior leaders who are:

  • Negotiating an external job offer
  • Preparing for an internal promotion
  • Entering a retention or stay discussion
  • Taking on a significant expansion in responsibility
  • Moving into a first-time VP, SVP, EVP, or C-suite role
  • Concerned that an offer may be based on current compensation rather than future scope
  • Navigating an employer that may cite salary bands, budget limitations, or internal equity
  • Evaluating a package with several compensation and benefit components
  • Unsure how to make a persuasive case without sounding adversarial or overly transactional
  • Preparing for a compensation conversation that could materially affect long-term earnings and career positioning

This engagement is particularly valuable when the responsibilities have grown more significantly than the title or initial compensation reflects.

CLIENT RESULTS

The Right Strategy Can Change More Than Salary

Our clients have used this process to achieve outcomes including:

  • Salary offer increases of up to 30% and more
  • Stronger executive titles
  • Phased compensation increases tied to defined performance milestones
  • Added bonuses and incentive opportunities
  • Stronger PTO, benefits, and broader package terms
  • Improved reporting relationships and role structures
  • Clearer authority, responsibilities, and first-year expectations
  • Improved reporting relationships and role structures

Every employer, negotiation, and opportunity is different, and no particular result can be guaranteed.

What can be strengthened is the quality of your preparation, the credibility of your supporting arguments, the way you articulate your value, and your ability to negotiate the full opportunity with greater control.

POSITIONING AND VALUE CASE

Your Case Matters as Much as Your Number

Compensation research alone is not enough.

You also need to connect the research to the actual role, the problems the organization needs solved, and the value you are prepared to deliver.

We help you build a clear and persuasive case that may include:

  • The true scope and expectations of the role
  • The business problems you are being hired or promoted to solve
  • Your most relevant accomplishments and measurable results
  • The financial, operational, strategic, or organizational impact you have already demonstrated
  • Your readiness to assume the position and deliver value quickly
  • Market and compensation reference points that support your position
  • The reasons the title, salary, incentives, or broader package should be structured differently

This is preparation that changes what you communicate, how you show up, and how decision-makers experience you.

This Is Not Standard Interview Coaching

Standard interview coaching typically focuses on answering questions, improving delivery, and strengthening interview performance. The service is designed for executives who need more than general encouragement to negotiate.

It provides a structured and individualized strategy for a consequential career and financial decision.

This engagement combines:

  • Role-scope analysis
  • Focused compensation research
  • Market and organizational context
  • Executive value positioning
  • Total-package strategy
  • Personalized negotiation language
  • Pushback preparation
  • Live practice
  • Written strategy and decision support

The Process

Complete a brief intake and provide the materials most relevant to the opportunity. We review everything in advance so the first session can focus on strategy rather than background gathering.

We evaluate the role, scope, compensation package, decision process, and your strongest points of leverage. Together, we establish your priorities and identify the most important opportunities across the full offer.

We conduct focused compensation research and build a customized negotiation strategy. This includes strengthening your value argument, developing negotiation language, and preparing alternative approaches when flexibility may be limited.

We refine your approach, finalize your talking points, prepare for likely questions or objections, and practice the negotiation conversation. You will leave knowing what to ask for, how to position it, and how to respond.

You will receive personalized written guidance summarizing your strategy, key talking points, supporting arguments, and recommended next steps to reference throughout the negotiation.

What Our Past Clients Have Said About Us…

“…a game-changer for how I positioned myself in high-level conversations.”

Their work on my value proposition, executive bio, and interview preparation gave me far more than better wording. It helped me sharpen my message, strengthen how I spoke about results, and walk into senior-level conversations with more confidence, stronger tools, and a much better ability to stand out.

Inri M., CMO, Consumer Brand & Growth Strategy

“…the interview coaching helped me better highlight what makes me different.”

This company’s process did more than update materials. It gave me stronger guidance on how to speak about my background in a way that better reflected my strengths, achievements, and fit for the roles I wanted. The support was responsive, polished, and helped me generate stronger traction right away.

Philip R., Senior Director, Healthcare Business Development

“…the interview guidance alone was worth every dollar.”

I had no idea where to start in organizing and speaking about decades of experience in a focused, relevant way for an executive search in today’s market. Their coaching first helped me identify my story, organize it, strengthen my talking points, and approach the search with a real plan. The outstanding materials were the bonus – and I saw serious traction right away.

Tom M., Senior Director, Market Access & Business Development

“…more than worth the investment – twice.”

I have invested in Janice’s services twice and saw strong results both times. She helped sharpen my positioning in the market, ask the right questions, and improve how I presented myself in critical conversations. I have recommended her to others because the value was real.

Patrick C., Chief Commercial Officer, Global Commercial Growth

“…it fundamentally changed how I showed up in interviews.”

We moved beyond listing responsibilities and into articulating measurable results and executive-level contribution. That shift gave me stronger stories, better positioning, and the confidence to perform much better in interviews – which led to results.

Nick J., Senior Digital Director, E-Commerce & Content Operations

“…I was far better prepared to articulate my experience, leadership perspective, and value.”

Working with Janice helped me frame my background through the lens of where I wanted to go next, not just where I had been. I went into key interviews more focused, more prepared, and much more persuasive – and I am now in a CTO role aligned with a tremendous market opportunity.

Sam B., Chief Product & Technology Officer, Global Technology

“…my stories finally became relatable, credible, and memorable.”

The coaching helped me stop rambling through responsibilities and start telling stronger stories about impact. That changed the tone of my interviews and gave me much more control over how I was received.

Tom L., President, Global Supply Chain Services

“…I came in more polished, more confident, and far more compelling.”

Their coaching helped me tighten my talking points, sharpen the stories behind my results, and prepare for the questions that mattered most. I felt far stronger in high-stakes interviews than I ever had before.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. In many situations, it is better to prepare before the offer is finalized. The engagement can begin when an offer is expected, when an internal promotion is being discussed, when a retention conversation is approaching, or when a role is being materially expanded.

Yes. Internal promotions can be especially complicated because the employer may focus on current compensation, standard increase percentages, salary bands, approved budgets, or internal equity.

The work helps position the conversation around the scope and value of the future role rather than treating it as a routine salary increase.

Yes. One of the most important parts of the engagement is helping you articulate the value you bring and connect it directly to the opportunity. We will help you identify the most relevant proof from your career, determine which results best support your position, and develop credible language for explaining why the role, title, compensation, or broader package should be structured differently.

Yes. We conduct focused research into the role, employer environment, industry, region, and available compensation reference points. We then help you interpret that information appropriately and use it as support for your position. The strongest argument is rarely based on one salary source alone. It is built by connecting relevant market information with the actual scope of the role and the value you bring.

We will examine the available information and help you develop a credible compensation position. Public and private data is not always complete, current, or directly comparable, particularly for specialized executive roles. The research is used as informed support for the negotiation, not as a formal compensation valuation or guarantee.

Yes. The engagement evaluates the broader package, not only base salary. That may include incentives, bonuses, equity, profit sharing, retirement benefits, PTO, title, reporting structure, authority, resources, severance, and review timing.

A fixed salary band does not always mean the entire conversation is over. We have helped clients negotiate additional profit sharing, deferred compensation, increased PTO, and stepped up reviews, promotions and pay increases for the first year.

We will help you prepare to ask the right questions and evaluate whether flexibility may exist in areas such as: incentive compensation, bonuses, sign-on payments, PTO, equity or profit sharing, deferred compensation, or a phased increase tied to agreed-upon outcomes

The two-session engagement is designed to prepare you for one active compensation discussion. Additional advisory support may be purchased if the negotiation changes materially, a substantially revised offer is presented, the process becomes prolonged, or additional live coaching is needed.

The preferred client rate is available to clients who are actively participating in an eligible Executive Waypoint career branding or coaching engagement, or who completed that engagement within the previous six months.

After the six-month period, the standard $2,295 rate applies.
